PREVALENCE OF WORM IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN IN KONAWE UTARA DISTRICT, SOUTHEAST SULAWESI PROVINCE

Abstract


Prevalence of Worms in Elementary School Children in North Konawe District, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Worm disease is a soil-transmitted disease called Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH). In Indonesia, worm infection is a health problem that is often found because the prevalence rate is still high, reaching 28%. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of intestinal worms after POPM for 5 years in elementary school children in North Konawe District, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The survey method is descriptive with a cross sectional design approach. The population of the worm prevalence survey was class III, class IV and class V who were in selected elementary schools (aged 8-10 years). The number of samples examined was 429 samples. The survey results found a worm prevalence of 3.8%, a prevalence of roundworms of 0.9%, a prevalence of whipworms of 2.8%. Recommendations in the form of selective treatment and deworming once a year for elementary school children regularly for 5 years from the Health Office. It is necessary to provide counseling to elementary school children about helminthiasis and Clean and Healthy Behavior (PHBS).
