THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PLAGIARISM CHECKING SOCIALIZATION WITH THE TURNITIN APPLICATION TO STUDENTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION DEPARTMENT, HEALTH POLYTECHNIC GORONTALO MINISTRY OF HEALTH

Abstract

Students are required to make scientific papers as one of the conditions for completing their studies. Therefore, students must conduct a plagiarism check on the thesis made using the Turnitin. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of socialization of plagiarism checking in increasing student knowledge. This research is a simple experiment in the form of education in the form of socialization using one group pre-test and post-test study designs. This study was conducted on 25 subjects which were a total sample from the Department of Environmental Sanitation semester VII, Health Polytechnic of Gorontalo Ministry of Health. Based on descriptive statistical tests, the average value in the pre-test was 35.2 while in the post-test it was 58.4. The results of the ranks from the Wilcoxon test showed that 19 (76%) respondents experienced an increase in their positive ranks after participating in socialization, namely with a mean rank of 10.92. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed significantly a difference in the average student knowledge score related to plagiarism between the pre-test and post-test results with a p-value of < 0.001. These results are input so that socialization efforts related to the importance of taking precautions and checking plagiarism with the Turnitin application should be carried out from the beginning of students entering the campus.
